The Gigstarter competition is divided in two categories: Artist of the Year (bands, duos, solo artists) and the second category with the DJ of the Year 2021. The process is exactly the same for each category.
Different steps of the 2021 competition:
Subscription period: Artists can subscribe for the competition from November 4th until November 14th 2021.
Preselection step: A jury makes a shortlist out of all the artists that entered the contest. The shortlist will be announced on November 15th 2021.
Voting period: From November 16th to November 27th at 12am, fans and followers can vote for their favourite artists from the shortlist. To vote, people should go to the Gigstarter profile of the artist or DJ they support.
Top 3 finalists: In each category, the first 3 artists who received the most votes, will have to record a ten-minute performance video and send it to the Gigstarter team before December 8th. The external jury will choose the two winners among the 3 finalists of each category.
Final: online event: The top 3 finalists of each category will be invited to the online event on December 1th when the winners will be announced and interviewed. Their recorded performances will also be broadcasted. This livestream will be accessible for everyone.

Gigstarter offers a large number of solo artists for hire.
The kind of solo artists we offer goes from singers to soloists. What they have in common is that they give an entire show all by themselves. One because they are a born entertainer and the other because they play their musical instrument flawlessly. Booking an entire band normally requires a relatively high budget. When this is not available, booking a solo artist might be the solution since they are cheaper in general.Read more...
A lot of solo artists that sing and simultaneously play an instrument can be booked through our platform. Mostly these musicians write their own songs; this way their shows are perfect for living room concerts and bar performances. Irish pubs love to lend their stage to solo artists. Some shows have a higher pop value and are therefore suitable for venues that want to host new talent. These solo artists can sometimes be booked with a supporting band; if this is the case they will indicate so on their profiles.
Artists that focus purely on singing are also found on Gigstarter. These solo artists mostly sing folk music and are accompanied by a recording. One of the benefits of such solo artists is that they involve the crowd with their sing-alongs. But not all singers restrain themselves to this genre as some musicians are specialised in opera. These can be booked for occasions like masses and funerals. When an artist is accompanied by a recording it is important to look at which kind of recordings during the booking process. When there are no facilities at the location you can book a solo artist with a PA (sound system). Remember to discuss this during the booking process.
A solo artist that plays one instrument can be interesting to book for special occasions such as a funeral or a wedding ceremony. Think about a classic guitarist, a piano player, or a violinist. Some of these solo artists are also bookable as a support for another act. For example, DJ's sometimes work with percussion players, and also the DJ + saxophone combination is very popular. When you want to book a DJ + live combination, it is important to discuss this with the DJ in advance, because this fusion of DJ and live music doesn't work with all DJs and all music genres.
